In 2009, after seeing my website, I was asked by a company called Luminous Frenzy if I would run an art workshop at the annual Liberty Festival, held in September at Trafalgar Square, London, showing how I create my paintings. The day was a nice one, weather wise, and many people attended the whole event. There was so much noise from the bands and performers outside the marquee though, that those people inside it could hardly hear me! While I was doing the demonstration, my partner Pam and a member of Luminous Frenzy were “working the floor”, passing on what I was doing to those taking part in the workshop. I only had an hour, so it was really down to the basics, which were how to apply the plasticine in various textures, whether that be making a tree with foliage, building a stone wall, scraping a rough track or scrunching plasticine for grass. I had brought several previously prepared colour- washed canvas boards but, as it turned out, not nearly enough. People were actually being turned away, as the number of participants already in the marquee was far more than expected, which was a pleasant surprise. There was also a “rolling presentation” of my previous work being shown simultaneously on a screen. This presentation was created by Carole Denholm, who also took the photographs shown on this page. Luminous Frenzy is a company which supports people with learning difficulties, helping them to explore their creative potential and achieve recognition for their talents from the public and the wider artistic community. <<< BACK TO MAIN ‘ART’ PAGE
